Bridlewood is not only where we live, it is where we have invested in
our homes and properties, it is where our children learn, play and
where many of us socialize. For that reason we want to make sure it
is safe, for all of us.
The Safety Committee is a place you can report concerns, share happenings, and find out if others in the community are finding the same and what you can do.It is where Parent Councils at our area schools can share their stories, problems and resolutions.
We are interested in initiatives and ideas for making our neighborhoods safer, such as the newly launched Pace Car Program. The Safety Committee is looking for volunteers. If you have a little time to give and are passionate about the safety and security of our community, you can help. If you have a special interest in a specific issue such as traffic or vandalism, you can help.
Please send your comments and concerns to Bridlewood Safety Committee

Pace Car Program |
The Pace Car Program helps make communities safer by reducing driving speeds and calming traffic. The program asks drivers to sign a "pledge" to agree to drive the posted speed limit and identify their vehicle as a Pace Car to other drivers. The program also educates drivers to be more aware of their own driving speeds and how those speeds can impact other road users, particularly vulnerable child pedestrians and cyclists. Pace Car drivers, in effect, become "mobile speed bumps" calming traffic whenever they drive.

Neighbourhood Watch |
There was once a time neighbourhood crime seemed limited to downtown cores or areas with more transient housing. More and more though, neighbourhood crime, including vandalism, theft and muggings, are being reported in what were once quiet, suburban communities. Rather than sitting back and watching crime rates increase, there are some simple things you can do to help reduce crime in your neighbourhood and keep your home and family safe. The tips and information provided in this newsletter come from a variety of sources, including Ottawa Police, and most are common sense and easy to do.
Neighbourhood Watch is a program to help neighbours watch out for neighbours.
It aims to get citizens involved in discouraging and preventing crime at
the local level. The ultimate success of Neighbourhood Watch depends
largely on a commitment to cooperate between area residents and the police
- and more importantly, between residents themselves.
Don't be afraid to call. There are specific numbers to call if you have an emergency or suspect something might be wrong.

Make the Right Call |
Bridlewood is a very safe, clean and quiet neighbourhood but is not immune to problems. Although the summer months have the highest incidences of vandalism, graffiti and noise complaints, it is important that all residents continue to “Make the Right Call” all year round. Parents of teens are reminded that under the age of 16 children are not permitted to be out without parental supervision between 1 and 6 am and that parents can be held financially responsible for their children’s actions.
Recently we have had a rash of incidents from graffiti, vandalism to muggings. They seem to be perpetrated by a small group of individuals. It is very important that we are aware of what is going on and understand how to respond. Here is a document entitled "Make the Right Call". It outlines how you should respond to various types of issues that you may witness/hear or be aware of.
